Curley J. Matthews Jr.

Mr. Curley James Matthews,  Jr., 57, of 61 Fox Wood South,  Sanford, passed away May 21, 2022.  He was born to Curley James Matthews, Sr., and the late Adelle Covington Matthews.

He was a graduate of Harnett Central High School after which he worked for Paul Barbour Contracting, LLC, where he learned how to install floors, walls, cabinets, and all things construction.  James used those skills to build his own business 'Matthews Built, LLC'.

In 1998 James accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Victory Tabernacle in Lillington.  He served throughout the ministry serving on the usher board, lending his voice to the tenor section of the Anointed Voices of Victory, lending his building skills to assist with the upkeep of the church and his talents as a cook to serve on the culinary committee.

On August 31, 2002, he married the love of his life Tara Lynn Lucas.  Together they raised 4 boys and 1 daughter to love and praise the Lord.  James loved his wife and their amazing family until his death.

He leaves to remember all of who he was: his wife - Tara Lynn Matthews of the home; his sons - Jamie Durrell Matthews (Leah) of Holly Springs, Justin Tyler Matthews of Raleigh, Samuel Jeramiah Lucas and Daniel Jonathan Lucas of the home; daughter - Kayla Kristina Douglas (Antonio) of Wallace, South Carolina;  his father - Curley James Matthews, Sr.; his siblings - Mary Matthews of Sanford, Laverne "Jackie" Matthews of Spring Lake, Ella Matthews Knox (Bruce) of Fayetteville, Terry Jerome Matthews (Heidi) of Broadway, Patricia Matthews Brannon (Sean) of Bowie, MD., Wayne McDougald of Lillington, and Vanessa Robinson of Dallas, TX.; 11 grandchildren; godson - JoQuese Johnson; goddaughter - Antoinette Campbell; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be Friday, May 27, 2022 at the Dafford Funeral Home, Angier, from 1PM - 6PM.  Masks are required to enter.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 1PM at the Victory Tabernacle Church, Lillington, following the church's guidelines for entrance and capacity.   Burial will follow in the Refuge Tabernacle Memorial Gardens, Lillington.
