Ms. Emma Jane Kelly, 80, of 1280 Moores Chapel Rd, Lillington, passed away June 24, 2022. Affectionately known as "Koot", Emma was born in Harnett County to the late Shepherd and Mary Jane Kelly. She was educated in the Harnett County School System, where she graduated from Shawtown High School.
In her early years, she was employed at Burlington Industries in Erwin. In 1981, Emma made the transition to the Harnett County School System, and was employed at Boone Trail Elementary School as the well-loved Custodian for 25 years. In 2006, she retired to be home to care for her granddaughter.
Emma was a faithful member of Norrington AME Zion Church, selflessly serving in many capacities - Usher Board, Pastor's Aide, President of the Stewardess Board, Women's Home and Foreign Missionary Society, Home Mission Worker, and YAMS Coordinator.
Emma leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter - Shernita Kelly; grandchildren - Sekaiya Kelly of Cary, and Olivia Kelly of Lillington; one brother and five sisters - Louis Kelly (Elaine) and Sudie Chavis of Lillington, Essie Kelly, Jessie Kelly, and Ozella Clark of Albany, NY, and Flora McCants of Detroit, MI.; special nieces - Minister Katia Whitehead, Priscilla Kelly, and Michelle McDougald which were reared as her own; special nephew - James Ray; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be Friday, July 1, 2022 from 1PM - 5PM @ the Dafford Funeral Home of Angier. Masks are required to enter.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 2, 2022 @ 1PM @ Victory Tabernacle Church, 7330 NC 27W, Lillington, following the church's guidelines for entrance and capacity.
Burial will follow in the Norrington AME Zion Church Cemetery, Lillington.
