It is profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Almond ‘Wigg’ Butler, Jr, of Roseboro, NC passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
Born on September 17, 1939, in Sampson County to the late Almond Butler, Sr. and Lillie Bennett Butler, he grew up in the Belvoir community with 8 siblings: Johnny Bennett, Grady Butler, Sr., Willie James Butler, Minnie B. Jackson, Katie Butler, Kathleen Butler, Charlie Frank Butler, and Lillie B. Herring. He worked as a farmer, assisting Rupert Butler with crops until the 1990s and Keith Butler with turkeys and chickens until his retirement in 2018. He made countless fishing trips to Surf City, NC. He loved mowing grass and making sure the yard looked “just right.” Wigg enjoyed watching the UNC Tarheels and any baseball game he could find. His life reflected his faith in Christ, and he will be dearly missed. He is survived by 5 nieces (Elma B. Kellon, Janis B. Faison, Melvia H. Bennett, Stephanie Blue, Yolanda B. Raynor) and 8 nephews (Jimmy Bennett, John Bennett Jr., Robert Earl Butler, Elbert R. Butler, Grady Butler Jr., Darrell G. Butler, Douglas Herring, Christopher Butler). Wigg is also survived by a special nephew, Travis Butler, along with an “adopted brother”, Keith Butler, and “adopted grandson”, Adam Butler
Public viewing will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 10:30 am until 12:00 noon, prior to the service beginning at Baptist Church Church.
Funeral services for Mr. Butler will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Baptist Chapel Church in Autryville, NC.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Clinton, NC.
