We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mr. Henry “Pokey” Monds, 85, of 127 Bruce Dr., Dunn, on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Henry Monds, affectionately known as Poke was born June 3, 1940, to the late Neil Henry Monds and Sadie Mae Monds in Dunn NC.
He was educated in the Harnett County School system. graduating from Harnett High in 1958. He also attended North Carolina Central. He relocated to Stamford CT in the 1960’s. He was a jack of all trades. Upon arriving in CT, he found employment with a Dry Cleaners in Greenwich. There he mastered the art and later opened his own Dry-Cleaning business. He also owned and operated a Stamford staple, The Canopy. He also owned and managed many real estate ventures. He met and married Deborah known only to him as Geroge on February 28, 1987. In 1995, he relocated the family back to his hometown of Dunn NC. Again, the jack of trades, started a cab and limousine service company and opened a restaurant. He finally retired in 2005. His love for cars showed by his fleet. Many can attest that the Rolls Royce was one of his favorites.
Poke was well known to many and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Gloria Garner. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Deborah Monds; three daughters, Kiandra (Lady) Johnson and Tiffany Johnson of Charolotte NC and Kelli Monds of Atlanta Ga; two sons, Curt Monds (Gina) and Jermaine Johnson both of Charlotte NC; One sister, Alease Clark; Six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Public viewing will be held at Dafford Funeral Home Chapel, Dunn, Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 2:00 until 2:55 pm.
Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 pm, following the guidelines of the chapel for entrance and capacity.
Interment will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery, Dunn, NC.
