Phillip Ike “Phil” Gaughf, 74, of Angier, NC was called home to Heaven on May 9, 2025 where he is now reunited with his son, Jason, and two other precious children who preceded him in death.
Phil was born on June 2, 1950 in Tifton, GA to the late Orvis "Bud" Gaughf Jr. and Mary Kingry. Phil grew up in Milton, FL along with his older brother, the late Orvis “Skip” Gaughf III, and his younger sister, Alicia “Lee” Westgate. In 1965, his family moved to Alexandria, VA where he graduated from Francis C. Hammond High School in 1967. In 1970, Phil met the love of his life, Debbie Westgate, and they married on September 18, 1971. They remained in Alexandria until 2006 when they moved to Angier, NC.
Phil worked as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Repair Technician for Joint Base Andrews, MD. He also proudly served his country for five years in the Air National Guard and for twenty years in the Air Force Reserves.
Phil enjoyed a variety of sports, military history, classic car shows, playing cards and board games, but above all else, spending time with his family.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Debbie; his daughters, Brandi (Andy) South and Tracy Benson; his grandchildren, Billy Benson and Kaitlyn South; his sister, Lee; as well as brothers- and sisters-in-law, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Phil will be remembered most for his patriotism, his sense of humor, and his love for his family.
A memorial service will be held in Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation or any veterans organization honoring America's brave service men and women.
