It is with heartfelt sympathy that we announce the passing of Mrs. Mary McPherson, 76, of 88 Rochester Rd., Erwin, on Monday, August 4, 2025.
The family will receive friends daily at the home of Mrs. Gloria Surles, 116 Bent Tree St., Lillington, from 4PM - 8PM. Immediate family not included in these times. Please respect the family's wishes.
On June 6, 1949, God blessed Ardelia McKoy and Eugene Junior Roberts a beautiful sassy baby girl, Mary Jean. She departed this life August 4, 2025.
Mary Jean was preceded in death her father Eugene Junior Roberts and mother Ardelia Mckoy, brother Melvin McKoy, sister Ida Mae Mclean, and her son-in-law Walter Surles.
Raised in Cedar Grove community, Mary Jean graduated from Job Corp with a GED and LPN degree. She provided care to family members and friends.
Mary Jean works as a cook and retired from Oak Hill Retirement in Angier, North Carolina.
Mary Jean enjoyed life and was an avid reader of Harlequin Romance novels and Zane’s books. She shared her many books with her late cousin Janie McKoy.
Mary Jean was also lifelong music lover of Gospel (Precious Lord) and country and western.
Mary Jean was a proud and loving mother, loyal wife, a steadfast friend and cousin, who love life. Her kindness and caring spirit touched everyone she met.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter- Elder Gloria Jean Surles; granddaughters- Waltonia Surles, Shannon Surles, Krystal Surles, and Sharon Ray; God-daughters- Bonita (Terrell) Blue,and Kim Morris; 15 grand-children; special sisters- Dorothy McKoy and Wilma (Roger) Knight; best friend- Doretha Walker; special niece and nephews- Sonya Knight and Micheal McKoy and David McLean; two nieces-Hope McCullum and Pricilla (Curtis)Robinson; one nephew-Thurman Morris; and host of other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be held at Dafford Funeral Home, Angier, Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 12 Noon - 1:30PM.
Graveside Service will follow at Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington, Tuesday, August 12, 2025, @ 2PM, following the guidelines of the Dafford Funeral Home staff for entrance and capacity.
