Mrs. Melvina Gillis, 97, of 713 Wilma St., Fayetteville, passed away, Tuesday, February 20, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Jane Draughon Williams and Tyson M. Williams of Sampson County.
At the tender age of 16, Melvina married the loved of her life, Joshua Gillis. To this union two children were born, Linda Grey Gillis and Larry Gillis. She accepted Jesus at an early age and was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove FWB Church, Dunn, until her health failed. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. On top of that, she was a great cook, an excellent baker of pies and cakes and was well known for her "sugar diabetes iced tea."
She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted daughter - Linda Logan; a niece - Terry Mims, that is more like a daughter; grandchildren - Dwayne Gillis (Tracie), Albert Cooley III "AC", LaTrenda Thomas (Mark), Veronica Harris (Rickey), Antony McRae (LaToria), Marquello McRae; several great and great great grandchildren; a sister-in-love - Arensia Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing will be at the Kingdom Impact Global Ministries, Fayetteville, Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 12 Noon - 12:55PM, with the family present at 12:30PM. The Celebration of Life Serivice will begin at 1PM., following the guidelines of the church for entrance and capacity. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery, Dunn.
