It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Ms. Delores Marie Adams, 82, of 431 Junny Road, Angier, Thursday, July 25, 2024.
Delores was born on October 3, 1941 in Tarboro, NC to Rev. Jesse B. Adams and Essie Lee Hart Adams. She was a preacher's kid. Brought up in the Alleghany Conference under her father's administration, she participated in most youth organizations and clubs in the church. Delores' love of music began in church. At age 10 she started piano instruction which continued until the age of 17. She also sang in the church choir during her childhood. She attended Johnstown HS in Pennsylvania where she was a member of Y-Teens Nursing Club, showing an early interest in Nursing. She graduated in 1959.
Pursuing her dream of a nursing career after graduation, Delores attended Howard University School of Nursing in Washington, D. C., and graduated in 1963 earning her degree and credentials as a Registered Nurse. In 1970 she was awarded her certificate for a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Over a span of 50 years, she held numerous nursing jobs in several hospitals, clinics, and surgical centers in Washington, D. C., and NY as well as private practice nursing until she retired in 2012.
During her life Delores has been a faithful and committed servant of God and Church. In 1965 she and her mother - Essie Lee, joined the Corona/Shaw A. M. E. Zion Church in Corona Queens. Despite her busy life she was very active in her church. In addition to being the Church Clerk and on the Senior Choir, she was on the Building Fund committee and the Leader of Class Leaders. Notably, Delores had been a member of the Parent Body of the W. H. O. M. society, and since 1991 a member of Project Outreach Workers, an organization that served dinner to those in need on Christmas Day.
Delores continued to pursue her dreams - she loved music and she loved singing. An accomplished and professionally trained soloist, pianist, organist and keyboard player, Delores' dream was to perform in front of audiences. During the mid-80's through the early 90's Delores performed and developed her skills further with various voice coaches and instructors in the jazz idiom, and took advanced piano and keyboard at The Bradley Music Center. She performed well at many popular New York Clubs and Venues singing and playing the piano. Some noteworthy clubs were The Village Gate, Trocadero's, Dannys Skylight Room, The Carlyle Hotel and The Lotus Room. After several years of entertaining Delores decided to return to Nursing, her first love, full time. However, music stayed in her heart. She went on to earn a B. A. in Musicj from Queens College of the City University of NY in 1998.
Delores never married or had children but she leaves to mourn: her one aunt - Mrs. Marie Palmer of Fuquay-Varina, NC; cousins - Kaisha Glascoe of Fuquay-Varina, NC., Desiree Glascoe, Eugene Glascoe, Kaylei Page, and Jayden Page of Woodbridge, VA., and other relatives and friends.
Viewing and visitation will be on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the Dafford Funeral Home Chapel, Angier, from 11:00AM - 11:55AM. The Celebration of Life Service will follow at 12Noon, following the guidelines of the funeral home for entrance and capacity.
