Paul J. Waters

Mr. Paul J. Waters, "Butch", 73, of 1370 Moore's Chapel Road, Lillington, passed away December 21, 2021. He was the son of the late Manuel Waters and Ava McLean Waters. As a young boy, he attended Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Lillington, and later he was an active, honorary member of Paradise AME Zion Church, Broadway.

He was drafted in the United States Army where he became a heavy equipment operator, and upon his departure from the military, he became a truck driver while living in Maryland and drove for many years. After returning to North Carolina, he was employed with the N C Department of Transportation for 22 years until retirement. He was also a member of the Advance Masonic Lodge # 217, F & A M, Lillington.

He leaves to cherish his memory: Lillie Mae, a loving and devoted wife of 23 years; nine daughters - Urssula and Leslie Waters of Baltimore, MD, Shirley Mitchell, Melissa Goins (Edward), Sharon Smith, Carla Judd (Daryl), Gale Spearman (Jeff), Petrina McLean (Lenwood), and Tressa McLean (Anthony) all of Lillington; two sons - Colin and Christopher Waters, both of Baltimore, MD; one sister - Ava Waters of Baltimore, MD; one brother - Greg Waters of Baltimore, MD; sisters-in-law - Elaine Kelly (Louis), Yvonne Melvin, Barbara McIver and Shernita Kelly all of Lillington; brothers-in-law - Edward McDougald (Vivian) of Lillington and Earl McDougald (Louana) of Broadway; twenty one grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

The public viewing will be Sunday, December 26, 2021 at the Dafford Funeral Home, Angier, from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm.  Masks are required to enter.

The funeral service will be conducted Monday, December 27, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Dafford Funeral Home Chapel in Angier with no more than 75 people allowed inside. Masks are required to enter and practice social distancing. Burial will follow in the Paradise AME Zion Church Cemetery, 495 Lloyd Stewart Road, Broadway.
