John D. Banks, Jr.

Mr. John D. Banks, Jr., 62, of 318 Village Drive, Apt. C., Sanford, passed away November 15, 2022.  The family will receive friends at the home of Jermaine and Marilyn Banks, 206 Tower View Lane, Sanford. 

John, affectionately known as Skip, was born to the late John Dee Banks, II and the late Dellar Young.  Shortly after graduating high school, he attended college at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and while there, he became interested in joining the military to help with college expenses.  He served his country for several years receiving the rank of Sergeant.  Skip was employed for several years at 2 well known New York eateries:  Micky Mantle and Tavern on the Green.  Skip realized the he promised himself that he would continue his education, and received his Associates Degree in Accounting.  This led to 2 of his sons receiving degree in accounting and one following in his footsteps by serving his country as well.

Shortly after John and Malinda Stepney were married, they started a family.  Skip and Malinda shared 41 years together.  Their lives were so intertwined that you did not know one without the other.  Their love for family could not be measured.  If you didn't want to know the truth, then don't ask them, because they would give it to you straight, with no chaser!

Skip and Malinda are survived by their four children:  Jamel Banks, Jermaine Banks (Marilyn), both of Sanford, Jordan Banks (Kadijah) of Wake Forest, and Humphrey Banks of the home; mother - Ruby Stepney of Sanford; siblings - Marcella L. Smith of Baltimore, MD., Lillian M. Banks of Bronx, NY., Linda H. Banks of Columbus, OH., Miriam A. Banks-Farrakham of Union, NJ., Wayne Bender (Terrolyn) of Ft. Benning, GA., Dennis McNeil (Lisa) of South Brunswick, NJ., Denise Stroud, Malisha Stepney and Van Stepney (Curtette), all of Sanford; five grandchildren, and countless extended family and fond friends all whom loved the both dearly.

Public viewing will be at the Spring Lane Assembly of God Church, Sanford, Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from 11AM - 12:55PM.  Funeral services will begin at 1PM.  Interment will be on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 @ 10AM at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Bragg, with military honors.
